About

Mindfully More started as cover classes and outdoor sunset classes in Australia in 2014, later becoming a boutique studio with a loyal following of fabulous yogis who I still miss dearly.

The teaching focus is on classes being accessible to complete beginners, while keeping everyone safe by offering options and time.

Now based in Kyoto, trading as Mindfully More Japan LLC, I look forward to working on a more personal basis in studio while providing opportunities to combine Japanese traditional mindful practices with yoga and meditation through regular classes in traditional locations, and retreats at temples.

Sam

I lived in the Tokyo area from 1997-2009, and now in Kyoto since 2022. I love Japan – the culture, the food, the people, the mindful approach to so many things. I love that the mindful aspects of yoga link into these and the teachings of some styles of Buddhism. I’m particularly keen to incorporate traditional Japanese mindful activities into my events and support traditional industries that are likely to be lost soon if nothing is done.

I’ve been teaching yoga since 2014, with the goal of keeping you safe in each class, I encourage you to listen to your body, move in the best way for you and take the time you need, just for you.

I love that yoga is an individual practice, so poses can be modified to meet the needs of every body. I am not naturally flexible but have become both functionally flexible and functionally strong.

I provide small classes that are more accessible to the those of you who think ‘I’m not flexible enough to do yoga’. There are options for each of you to find the best way for you to do “your yoga”. I love helping you explore the best way to do each pose for your particular body, your knees, your back etc, and how to modify it each day as we change. Finding the best way to meet your own needs on any particular day. Listening to your own body to keep yourself comfortable, and find the stillness or movement that you need.

We all need time out for ourselves. I’ve found restorative yoga a lifeline to stillness of mind & body, finding my old energy and rediscovering my self-worth. A pause button on the static that filled my chest, ears and mind.

We need less. Less strain… less pressure… less busyness… less doing…

And more. More self-awareness… more stillness… more safety… more just simply being… And I don't mean just doing nothing - try keeping your stillness in a stronger pose or balance ;)

With a background in anatomy, biomechanics & physiology, I've been teaching adults for over 20 years now, starting from English, business, moving to yoga, mindful movement and Mindful Nutrition.

I love sharing health and self-care strategies with people who are looking for them, and Japan with anyone who is interested.
